Event committee.

Do you want to be in the middle of the Backcountry festival action? Maybe you want to gain event management experience, or make connections in the backcountry community?

The ABCF is run by a dedicated team of volunteers who plan out all of the behind-the-scenes cogs that make the festival run smoothly, and we’re looking to fill some roles for the 2026 event! Being part of the committee does require committment outside of the festival weekend, and in the months leading up to the event (e.g. weekly committee calls and self-driven work to accomplish tasks). We’re a supportive, and passionate team, who appreciate any effort our volunteers are willing to put in!

Logistics Pro.

With 300+ attendees to the festival each year, there are a lot of moving parts when it comes to managing venues, vendors and transport. Are you familiar (or willing to become familiar) with the Hotham area, and good at thinking on your feet when Plan A doesn’t quite work out? Please join our team!

Social Media and Communications Wizard.

Our Instagram and Facebook posts don’t create themselves! In the lead up to the Backcountry festival, or social channels are key for promoting the festival, communicating with our attendees, and acquiring sponsorships. If you have creative flair and a way with words, we’d love your help promoting the ABCF. Bonus if you’re able to write newsletters for our email subscribers, and lend a hand with press releases!

Outdoor Bar Coordinator.

Saturday night’s outdoor bar has long been a popular highlight of the Backcountry festival. Delicious food, flowing drinks, music and party vibes bring the community together, and we need someone to help us coordinate the night! If you have a vision for what a great night at the backcountry festival looks like, we want you involved!

Want to work as a general volunteer for the Australian Backcountry Festival, but don’t have time to commit to the organising committee?

We also need a team of volunteers for ad-hoc and on-the-day help with a variety of tasks, including:

  • Handing out and hanging up ABCF posters in and around Mt. Hotham in the lead up to the event

  • Assisting our workshop hosts with set up, demonstrations and managing attendees

  • Outdoor bar set up and pack up

  • Tech support at our venues

  • Photography and videography throughout the festival

You’ll still have plenty of time to participate in tours, workshops and social events at the festival, even as part of our volunteer team!

Outdoor Bar

If you are a local food vendor who would like to be part of the Backcountry Festival outdoor bar, send us a message.

Please note it’s a ski-in outdoor bar. No electricity will be available. There is Telstra and Optus reception at the site so you can operate Square payment. There will be a designated bump in time on Saturday for all bar stakeholders to meet at the car park, and a Hotham snow truck will transport equipment to the site for you. Reverse will happen for bump out on Sunday.

See video of 2019 outdoor bar from Crepe Collective to understand what conditions you’ll be working in.

Sponsorship

Are you a brand interested in getting your product or services in front of a targeted backcountry audience?

We would love cash donations to help with necessary costs such as insurance. We will certainly promote your goodwill to our email database and social channels.

The festival also greatly appreciates products/gift vouchers/discounts to raffle off or giveaway to attract volunteers and festival participants to register and attend the event.
